What is your job and do you like or dislike it? If you enjoy your job then how long did it take to figure out what job would be best? What methods did you use to figure it all out? Thanks!Do you ENJOY doing your job at work? How long did it take to figure out the best fit?
I work as a research analyst and I don't really care for my job. I already know what job I want but its difficult to get in to that field. I think you figure out what job is best for you through experience. Your first job will rarely ever be your favorite job.Do you ENJOY doing your job at work? How long did it take to figure out the best fit?
I work as a investment analyst, specifically working in macroeconomic and portfolio analysis for a huge financial services firm. I would say that I enjoy my industry and my company, but I'm not in love with this role because it can be a bit boring (there are times when there are no research requests and I have absolutely nothing to do) I also have a completely different personality type then the rest of my group so I feel like I don't fit in. I'm actively looking for a new position in my company as we speak. Now that said I love my field. I actually came about it by accident I ended up falling in love with the stock market and wanted to learn as much as I could about the markets. I love that its constantly changing. I think in most career paths you know what field your interested in but you have to gain experience in a variety of roles within that field so you'll hold numerous roles over your career. I've been involved in the financial services field for 7 years all with the same company, but I've had a variety of roles in the field, from working as a financial advisor, to working with large institutional clients, to what I'm doing now which is more research oriented. My next step is to work in a role that allows me to work directly with the institutional portfolio managers.
There's really no methods to figuring this out.
I'm a Web Content Manager and I do kinda enjoy it. The most important thing, as most people will tell you, is you find a career that allows you to do what you love. I'd rather take a pay cut or get paid a little less but doing what I enjoy. But luckily for me, that wasn't the case - I am getting paid more than before and actually doing what I enjoy (with a nifty title, too.)
I also agree with JT above. My first job was not what I wanted to do. Neither was my second job. This is my third job now and I had just realized what I wanted to do 2 years ago. :) First job outta college is for experience and that ';big company'; name to make your resume ';pretty'; :) Then you just work, explore, take on hobbies, build a network, talk to different people and their jobs and money-making hobbies - you will soon realize what you love.
Good luck :)
