Can anyone figure out the breed of this dog?

I saw a man walking with a dog that looked like a big brown bear, with decently long hair, but this dog was HUGE and I would like to know its breed. Any clues as to what it would be?Can anyone figure out the breed of this dog?
bullmastif or saint bernardCan anyone figure out the breed of this dog?
From what you said, my best guess would be that you saw a brown Newfoundland. Newfoundlands can get rather large, and they can be rather furry...they could very likely resemble a bear...

The link below contains some pictures of some big, brown Newfoundlands, and I could see how they could remind you of a bear (although they would be a good deal nicer than a bear...)

If it was not a Newfoundland that you saw, then my next guess would be a St. Bernard (although they are usually white and brown, unlike a bear); or, perhaps a Chow, but chows sometimes aren't all that big.
my first thought would be newfoundland or burmese mountain dog.

BMDs have tan and white markings though.

The first time I ever saw a Newfoundland I thought it looked like a black version of a Great Pyrenees (a common breed around here) and Great Pyrenees look like polar bears to me, so I could see how a Newfie would look like a black bear ;)
Go to the AKC website and looking in the working breed and the hound group and see if you see it and then let us know!

I recently saw a Tibetan Mastiff on the AKC championships and think they are just BEAUTIFUL but huge! http://www.akc.org/breeds/tibetan_mastif鈥?/a>

Also could be a Neffie as some others have said and they can be brown and even white and black as well as black http://www.akc.org/breeds/newfoundland/i鈥?/a> (more likely this because Tibetans are kind of rare here still).

But could have been a mix of anything! Maybe it WAS a bear! LOL! JK!
It could be a chowchow, but they certainly aren't the size of a bear. Just so you know, chows aren't for beginners. They need a lot of training and socialization. It may have also been a mix. I always run up and go, ';What kind of dog is that?!?!?!'; when I see a weird-looking dog. n_n
Sounds a bit like a Newfoundland.
