Why is Thomas Jefferson an important Enlightenment figure?

I understand why he is considered one of the Enlightenment figures (as in, his beliefs and opinions, and political power to spread them), but why was he important to the period of Enlightenment itself?

Thank you.Why is Thomas Jefferson an important Enlightenment figure?
I really think he was post-enlightenment..but he did embody a great deal enlightentment thought in his writings, very logical and rationale
