depends what you did. running is cardiovascular, (helps with your general fitness) and sheds the pounds, builds the muscles.
Any sport would help you body get more toned. gym work will be fine, but get a trainer if u want results. depending on your age and size also can make a difference to how much you can lose as well.

After 2-3 weeks you would just start seeing the benefits.
Those of us in endurance sports (triathlon, marathon, etc) know that you get the benefit of today's workout two weeks from today.
