I have all my personal work, games, pictures, music and so on saved to my external hard drive. But I still do not have any space on my internal hard drive. What could be the reason for this? Is there something I can do to fix it?There is a lot of space taken up on my hard drive and I cannot figure out why?
It could be your applications that are installed on your computer, temporary files, temporary internet files, recycle bin ect. Try opening up My Computer, right clicking your internal drive and then selecting Properties, it will come up with a new window that will have a visual pie chart of the usage on your computer, click Disk Cleanup and after it is done calculating the space it can clean up, go ahead and select all the options to clean up and begin the disk clean up. That will probably free at least 4GB on your hard drive.
Now if you have a lot of applications you will have to reinstall them on your external hard drive if you want to free up even more space. When they are installed on that drive, you will be able to connect the drive to your computer and launch the applications whenever you want, but you will NEED the external drive to use those applications. I suggest only doing this for programs that you do not need that often, not vital ones like Microsoft Office that you may use quite a bit.
Also try just going through all of your My Documents folders to see how much is in each folder. Just hover your mouse over it and it will give you a size estimate, there might be something in there that you missed that is still taking up a lot of space!
